A man was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting Thursday afternoon after he tried to hide a T-shirt under his own shirt and walk out of the UA Associated Students Bookstore, police reports stated.

An employee of the bookstore, 1209 E. University Blvd., called university police after she saw a man try on a UA T-shirt, put his own shirt on over it and try to walk out of the store, reports stated.

Police asked John Fredrick Halbig, 56, of the 5500 block of East Kelso Street, what he was doing with the T-shirt.

Halbig told a police officer he was a "secret government agent to a Marine Corps officer" and that he needed the shirt for his daughter's birthday, reports stated.

The bookstore employee and a security guard told police that Halbig appeared to be drunk.

The security guard also told police that the man attempted to bribe him and other employees with large sums of money to avoid being reported to police, reports stated.

Halbig finally told police, "I'm sorry for stealing. I'm really not a thief. I'm guilty as charged. The line was too long," reports stated.

Halbig was cited and released.

Someone took a construction truck Thursday evening from the corner of North Cherry Avenue and East University Boulevard.

Sun Western Construction employees reported leaving a white 1989 Ford truck unlocked with the keys in the ignition while they worked about half a block away, police reports stated.

The employees noticed someone driving the truck and called their office to see if another employee had been assigned to take the truck, reports stated.

The construction company did not assign anyone to take the truck, and the employees did not recognize the driver, who was described as a man in his mid-20s, reports stated.

The truck held 200 gallons of fuel, a pump, construction tools, a tape measure and a briefcase, reports stated.

Police have no suspects.

A UA student reported she was struck by a university vehicle Thursday night as she crossed East Sixth Street at North Cherry Avenue.

The woman told police she was in the marked crosswalk near Arizona Stadium when she saw a white Chevrolet truck with red and blue University of Arizona stripes on its side run a red light, reports stated.

The truck swerved to avoid hitting her but it brushed her hand, reports stated.

The student described the driver as a clean-shaven man about 40 years old who was wearing a white button-down shirt, reports stated.

The student's hand did not appear to be bruised, and she refused medical treatment. She did not see the truck's license plate number, and police have no suspects.

University police warned a man for trespassing Thursday night after he was spotted walking unescorted through an all-female area of Apache-Santa Cruz Residence Hall.

Two resident assistants in the dorm, 1440 E. Fifth St., asked the man what he was doing there. After the man told them he was looking for a bathroom, the RAs asked him to leave, police reports stated.

The man was later spotted at the corner of East Fourth Street and North Highland Avenue. Police took him back to the residence hall to confirm that he was the trespassing suspect, reports stated.

The RAs identified him as same man, and police verbally warned him not to trespass again or he would be arrested, reports stated.

A UA employee called university police Thursday morning after finding a bullet on the ground near the front doors of the Arizona Cancer Center, 1515 N. Campbell Ave.

The employee who found the bullet took it back to her office and called police. The bullet was placed into evidence.
