Men's volleyball sweeps first round
The No. 1-seeded UA men's volleyball club team continued its winning streak by cruising through its first round matchups at the national tournament yesterday in Maryland.
The early match against No. 24 seed Navy was the Wildcats' only match that was close. They eventually defeated Navy 17-16 and 15-10.
The following matches against No. 48 Vanderbilt and No. 23 Ohio State were easily handled, 15-1, 15-7 and 15-4, 15-7, respectively. The Wildcats' first match today is at 11:45 a.m. EST and continues as long as they keep winning.
Head coach Steve Carlat said his team performed well.
"Early on we had some jitters, but after the Navy match our guys were able to settle down and play some high-level volleyball," he said.
The three wins put the Wildcats at 27-4 for the season and 25-0 against club teams. - Joshua McClain
