From staff reports

The UA women's tennis team saw its three match winning streak go up in flames as No. 5 Stanford and No. 7 California scorched UA by the scores of 6-0 and 5-1, respectively, this weekend at the Robson Tennis Center.

Stanford broke the Wildcats' winning streak Friday with a dominating win. With the victory, the Cardinal remained undefeated in league play and improved to a 19-2 record overall. The Wildcats dropped to 7-11 overall and were only able to win one set in the entire match.

The lone win came in the No. 4 position where Wildcat sophomore Joanna Buczkowska was able to win one set in a match with Stanford's Lauren Kalvaria.

The Wildcats lost to the California Bears 5-1 Saturday in UA's final home match of the year.

Again Buczkowska racked up the only Wildcat win, defeating California's Claire Curran 6-4, 6-2.

There were no doubles matches played either day.

The Wildcats will resume competition next weekend when they travel to Tempe to compete against Arizona State.

The fate of the UA men's team in a match against Stanford was much the same as the women's, as the Cardinal cruised to a 6-0 victory Saturday. Severe weather conditions forced the cancellation of the doubles competition.

The UA men's team first traveled to Berkeley Friday to compete against the California Golden Bears. Cal won five of six singles matches and all three doubles matches to win the meet 6-1.

The Golden Bears improved to 7-9 overall and 2-7 record in the Pacific 10 Conference, while the Wildcats' loss dropped them to 7-10 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
