Women's water polo team heads to Texas to defend title
The UA women's water polo team travels to the University of Texas this weekend to compete in the Southwest Conference Championship.
The Wildcats (12-5) are the defending champions, sweeping the tournament with a 4-0 record last year. But they will face tough competition on the way to repeating.
Colorado and Northern Arizona are expected to be the main challengers.
"UC is the toughest team to beat," says two-meter offensive player Jennifer Strelow. "But NAU sees us as their rival, and they are always very motivated to beat us."
UA easily won all four of its games at the NAU Qualifier March 26. Colorado was the only other team to go 4-0. The NAU round robin matches counted as half of the conference tournament. Those games, combined with Saturday's games, will determine the top four teams that will play head-to-head Sunday. The winner gets a shot at going to the national tournament, which will be held in Pomona, Calif. - Joshua McClain
