Forces Of Nature
Original Soundtrack
(Dreamworks)

"Forces Of Nature" is the kind of movie they shouldn't have bothered to make, much less release. A romantic comedy starring Ben Affleck and Sandra Bullock. Exactly who is this supposed to appeal to?

But it's not a total loss, since, without the movie, the soundtrack wouldn't exist. Not that this is a gem of a CD or anything, but it has its moments.

The strongest selling point of the disc is a new song from Tricky, featuring his new co-conspirator, Carmen Ejogo. "Slowly" is the best song Tricky has done since "Pre-Millennium Tension."

Beyond that, there's a bunch of good tracks, like two from soundtrack darlings Faithless, U2's cover of "Everlasting Love," Gomez's "Whippin' Piccadilly" and tunes from the Propellerheads and Pigeonhed with Lo-Fidelity Allstars.

The problem is that all of these songs are readily available on the artists' own albums, so not much is new here. However, as a mix-tape on CD, it works well, and, with the exception of Swervedriver's bizarre decision to cover "Magic Bus" and the even more bizarre decision to include it, it's a fun time. -doug levy
