We know it's hard to stay in Tucson during the long summer months. If you'll be stuck here for the next couple of months and you're itching to go out for a night on the town, you'll find our handy-dandy calendar for the entire month of May and beyond useful. There's something going on here for everyone.

Get in touch with your inner soul singer at the Desert Blues Concert and Workshop May 8. John Jackson, Del Rey and other performing artists will hold a workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the School of Music. For $50 you receive a chance to play with these musicians, a free T-shirt, coffee mug, hat pin and a reserved seat to the concert. The concert starts at 7 p.m. in Centennial Hall. Breakers Waterpark in Marana is no longer only for swimming. It will be taken over by Goldfinger, Voodoo Glowskulls and the Phunk Junkeez May 8 for Music and Sun 101. Tickets are $19 in advance, $25 day of show, and that includes a full day waterpark pass. The show is all ages. It all begins at 11 a.m., so bring sunscreen. Indie rockers House of Large Sizes will make a stop at Club Congress, 311 E. Congress, May 14. KXCI, Tucson's community radio station, brings Queen Ida and the Bon Temps Zydeco Band to the Rialto Theatre, 318 E. Congress, May 14. Tucson's own Black Leather Zydeco will open, and don't eat before you go, because Louisiana dinners will be available for purchase. Choose from seafood and chicken gumbo, red beans and rice, fried okra and rice pudding. Work off all that food with free dance lessons at 7:30 p.m.. Doors open at 7, and tickets are $25, $20. Love! Valor! Compassion! was a movie, and it's also a play. See it May 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 or 23 at the Tucson Center for the Performing Arts, on 6th Avenue and 14th Street. The haggis will be a flowin' and the kilts will be a twirlin' when the Pipes and Drums of the Seven Pipers Scottish Society come to Crowder Hall May 20 at 7:30 p.m. This new mix of electronically enchanted bagpipe music, Celtic dance and magical video combines to create "Pipe Dreams," a collaborative effort of many UA artists. Starting May 20 and continuing through August 12, the paintings of Laurie Surah will be shown at the Arizona Gallery in Memorial Student Union daily from 8 a.m.-10 p.m.
The works of Rosanna Solonia and Patrizia Rodomonti will be exhibited at the Lionel Rombach Gallery May 20-August 12. The hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. A special reception will be held May 20 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.

An exhibit entitled "American/English" will be displayed at Gross Gallery May 28-August 5. The collection can be seen Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. The arts department will hold a reception at the gallery May 28 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.

Beautifully crafted Spanish Colonial and Mexican trunks and chests used in early settlements will be featured at the "Arte del Cofre" exhibit at the Arizona Historical Society, 949 E.
