1999 record: 33-4 overall, 31-0 vs. club teams

The UA men's club volleyball team cruised to an undefeated season and the national championship April 10 in College Park, Md.

The Wildcats overcame defending national champion Graceland (Iowa) College in the final game by winning in straight sets 15-11, 15-13.

Junior blocker Vince Rooney was named the tournament's most valuable player, and graduate students Brian Bowers and Steve Walker were named to the all-tournament team. Along the way, Arizona was able to exorcise old tournament demons by defeating Florida, which beat them last season.

The championship is the first for the Arizona volleyball team, and with everyone returning the Wildcats can only hope for the same next season.

Assistant coach Skip Greenberg said the team had an amazing year.

"Whatever adversity came their way this year, they rose to the occasion," he said. - Joshua McClain
