One of the most popular tourist activities in San Francisco is taking a ride on cable cars that run through the city. And while the cars can't take you there, one of the more famous sites to visit in San Francisco has to be Alcatraz Island, which offers tours during the day.

Fisherman's Wharf is a very appealing area but basically a tourist trap. The wharf's surroundings feature restaurants including the famous Pier 39. There are also many street performers around town, including some who cover their clothing and bodies in different colors.
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is a must when visiting the city and is located in the heart of downtown. San Francisco's metropolitan area is also very accessible by public transportation and the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), which can be taken from surrounding Bay area cities.
The famous Haight-Ashbury area is also a very interesting destination that features several great shops. Also, visitors can go to different museums, concerts and see views of the bay itself.
San Francisco receives many different art showings in its galleries as well as musicians that visit the Bay area.
And if you're a baseball fan, the San Francisco Giants and close neighbor Oakland A's can add to your baseball needs. If nothing else, it's not Tucson in the summer.
