Meet UA President Peter Likins and others at The Rainbow Welcome Convocation today at 2:30 p.m. in the Arizona Ballroom of the Memorial Student Union. Hosted by Minority Student Services, and a slew of other offices of student affairs, this may be your only chance to tell your friends, "Hey! I'm going somewhere over the rainbow!" and actually be serious.

Get your late afternoon pickup at ARTBUZZ. Starting today, and continuing every Thursday, the University of Arizona Art Museum, in the Fine Arts Complex, will be giving out free Starbucks coffee to museum patrons 3 p.m - 5 p.m.

Crawdaddy-o will be breakin' out the horns on the UA Mall from 12 p.m.-1 p.m. Sit on the grass after class and listen to brass. It's all part of Eat to the Beat, which is part of the University Activities Board. If you'd like to be involved in planning events like Eat to the Beat, stop by the UAB Open House in Student Union room 101 between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Associated Students of the University of Arizona, otherwise known as ASUA, will also be having an Open House above the Bookstore from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Mingle with the student government officials, and ask them in person about pending campus issues.

If you're itching to go to an open house, and neither of the aforementioned get you jiggy, consider the Residence Hall Association. Their Open House is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Old Chemistry building, Room 134.

Once upon a time, the grassy knoll we all know as the UA Mall was called the Cactus Garden. Since it was covered with cactus, no one had anywhere to sit, so they mowed the prickly pears and seeded Bermuda. It wasn't called the Mall because of the original dictionary definition ("a grassy area between two roadways"), though; legend has it that the name came from all the vendors who realized what a great shopping opportunity they had that was convenient to UA students. The name "The Mall" is no coincidence. See for yourself today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hillel, the UA's Jewish student organization, will be firing up the grill for a free, open-to-everyone BBQ from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. If you can't find it by using your keen sense of smell, Hillel's address is 1245 E. Second St. Call 624-6561 for more information.

Barry John the Comic Juggler juggles things and tells jokes, hence his name. See him in action tonight at Centennial Hall. Showtime is 8 p.m. and admission is $3. Phone 621-3341 for more information.

"Titanic" drops anchor at Gallagher Theatre tonight through Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m. only. Tickets are $2.50.

If that's too early for you, and the coffee from the UA Art Museum is just kicking in, you're in luck. The first Midnight Movie of the year is tonight, and it's "Sixteen Candles."
