The Arizona Icecats usually don't play road games early in the season.

But if the games turn out as lopsided as the two they played this weekend did, don't expect too many complaints.

The Icecats (3-0-1) obliterated Southern Cal (0-4-0) 17-0 Saturday night and 8-0 Friday night in Los Angeles.

"In the 20 year history of the Icecats we've never had back-to-back shutouts," head coach Leo Golembiewski said.

Icecat junior goaltender Mark Meister had 18 saves in Friday's game in 49 minutes of playing time. Junior goalie Mike Tesi then came in and withstood a late Trojan flurry with seven saves in 11 minutes.

On Saturday freshman goalie Jason Morgan made his debut, also stopping the Trojans cold.

Sophomore center Marc Harris had five goals on the weekend, while sophomore left-wing and co-captain Paul Dorn notched a hat trick in Saturday's debacle.

Freshman Kevin Meehan, the younger brother of senior Brian Meehan, also got a hat trick Saturday.

"It was just a good weekend," Golembiewski said. "USC is a very young team like we are. They just didn't have our speed or our size."

Golembiewski said that while the Icecats don't expect to win all their games by such a wide margin, the way the team played was exactly what he wants.

"We were similar in style and execution for what we have to do to beat the bigger teams later on this year," he said.

Arizona now gets two weeks to prepare for its next pair of games against Colorado Oct. 30 and 31.
