The five-minute difference
To the editor,
Thank you for the tremendous participation in Project Volunteer's Fall Service Week. This year's Fall Service Week surpassed all of our expectations.
Community and campus organizations recruited volunteers for their efforts. Students and staff helped to make more than 800 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless. Hundreds of students filled a huge get well card with messages of hope for sick children at the UMC. Others helped to make a five minute change by becoming an organ donor, registering to vote, writing a letter to Congress and becoming more aware about health issues.
I am only sorry that every participant was not able to see the outcome of their work. I wish you all could have seen the gratitude in the faces of those who accepted the sandwiches at Casa Maria and Primavera. I wish you all could have seen the happiness in the faces of the sick children when they were presented with a card from their favorite university in the whole world.
I am glad to see that there are so many students who were willing to sacrifice five minutes out of their hectic lives to make a difference in their community. Thank you for making this the best Fall Service Week ever.
Finally, thank you to all the volunteers who helped to facilitate the events this week. Without these dedicated individuals, hundreds of UA students would be without the twenty hours of community service needed for their scholarships.
