Space and education
To the editor,
I am writing in response to the Nov. 2 letter to the editor regarding Glenn's space trip. While I can understand the concern of the author, some really important things have happened because of the flight.
At a time when the future will depend a great deal on technological knowledge base of the populace and the technological preparedness of our country, a very small percentage of students are majoring in science or technology.
As a result of this flight, children are talking about space careers. If the flight has done nothing else, I appreciate that it has raised the interest in these things.
