To the editor,

As officials and clubs of the University of Arizona, we wish to express our grievance with the article regarding our mascot's identity ("Wilbur tells all to hometown paper," Arizona Daily Wildcat, Nov. 16). Our particular affiliations hold in high regard the tradition regarding the secrecy of our mascots. Your article broke this tradition.

While it is true our mascot chose to reveal his identity to his own home town 2000-plus miles away, this did not in any way relinquish you from your own responsibility to uphold our school's traditions.

Because your paper is the voice for our student body we feel that your paper should have been a keeper of that tradition as well.

In the future we ask that your responsibility of releasing stories to the student body would not be greater than keeping these sacred traditions for the student body.
