Today is the World Health Organization's World AIDS Day. The University Activities Board's Eye on Diversity Committee is doing its part to participate by sponsoring "A Day Without Art," which involves covering up most of the public artwork on campus. This shrouding is being done to mourn victims of the AIDS crisis and to support the efforts of those working to educate the world about AIDS. Questions may be directed to Jen Spinner, UAB Arts Chair, at 621-0768.

Finals are quickly approaching; consequently, you are going to have to catch up on all the reading you "didn't have time to do" this semester. (Oops.) But, before you immerse yourself in academia, take a break and reintroduce yourself to some children's literature. The Main Library and Special Collections are presenting the 11th Annual Pop-Up and Movable Book Exhibit - Hands On! today during regular library hours. Though you probably won't be able to push, pull or slide any of the fun little tabs in the books, you can tale a look at them in the display cases and search for your childhood favorites in the catalogue. James T. Sinski, curator of the collection, will be giving a lecture on "Pop-Up and Movable Books: Examples of Forms" at 10 a.m. in the Special Collections Lobby. No children, please. Call him at 621-4300 for more information.

Use your beginning photography photos for more than a grade! UAInfo is looking for original photographs of the campus taken by UA students, faculty, staff and alumni to use as art on their home page. The Implementation Team will judge all submissions, of which a few will be chosen to rotate online. The winners will receive credit for their photographs. Contact Tracey Hummel at 626-5139 with questions on digitized images and contest information.

Honduras may be far away, but you can still touch the hearts and soothe the pain of the victims of the Hurricane Mitch disaster. The class of Retailing & Consumer Studies 384 is sponsoring a Food & Clothing Drive for Hurricane Mitch Survivors today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring non-perishable food items and whatever clothing you can spare to their booth on the UA Mall either today or tomorrow. Call Michelle Nelson at 690-9262 for further information.

The Department of Anthropology and the Arizona State Museum wrap up the New Directions in Southwestern Anthropology Lecture Series this evening in Room 110 of the Economics building. David Meltzer, professor of anthropology at Southern Methodist University, will take "A New Look at an Old Site: Recent Investigations of the Folsom Paleo-Indian Type Site" from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Meltzer will demonstrate how this site provided anthropologists with highly convincing evidence that humans coexisted with the extinct animals of the Pleistocene era and discuss how this relates to theories concerning the peopling of the New World. A reception will be held after the lecture in the lobby of the Arizona State Museum. Contact Suzanne Fish at 621-2556 for more information.
