To the campus community,

At 10 a.m. this Saturday in Centennial Hall, Arizona will bid its farewell to the great statesman, Morris K. Udall, and I extend my personal invitation for you to attend.

Among those in attendance will be House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt, Senator John McCain and our own M. Scott Momaday, all making remarks. His brother, Stuart Udall, will be the main speaker.

Centennial Hall, the location of the memorial service for Mo Udall, is also the site of his famous 1967 Vietnam speech where he broke with the administration and came out against the war. It is only one example of the many ways in which memories of Mo Udall permeate our campus.

He was president of the student body at The University of Arizona. He was a basketball star. He is a distinguished graduate of our College of Law where there is a chair named in his honor. He chose to house the Udall Foundation at the UA - a federal scholarship program created by Congress specifically to honor the legacy of Mo Udall. It is housed in the Udall Center, which carries out much of the work of the foundation.

His presence is with us everywhere on campus, and I know we will all mourn the loss of one of our most distinguished sons.
