University police arrested a Tucson man Wednesday morning on suspicion of shoplifting from the ASUA Bookstore.

According to police reports, Scott James Wilson, 31, walked into the Associated Students Bookstore, 1209 E. University Blvd., at 9:45 a.m. and failed to place his black duffel bag into the lockers customers are required to use.

Two security guards watched Wilson, of the 300 block of E. Fifth Street, walk into the textbook department with his duffel bag, reports stated.

While one guard watched him on camera, another saw him put six tapes and two text books with CD-Roms into his bag, reports stated.

According to police reports, Wilson was walking toward the front doors when the guards stopped him and escorted him to an office on the second floor.

Police arrived and Wilson told them he had come to the bookstore to purchase a psychology book. He said the stolen items found in his bag had been purchased "a long time ago" and he had the receipt at home, reports stated.

The items in Wilson's bag were still wrapped in plastic with bar codes on them.

Wilson told the officer it was his first time in the bookstore and admitted he did not have the money to pay for the items, which totaled $160, reports stated.

Wilson was taken to Pima County Jail where he was booked. He was released later that day by Pre-Trial Services.

Police arrested a Tucson man on suspicion of theft Wednesday morning after an officer discovered he had a stolen bicycle.

According to police reports, an officer was on patrol at 10:39 a.m. near the east side of La Paz Residence Hall, 607 N. Highland Ave., when he saw two men walking east between La Paz and Santa Cruz dorms.

One man, later identified as Art Lopez, 21, of a general delivery address, had a bicycle bearing a UA registration sticker on it, while the other man carried a bike tire.

When officers stopped the men, neither was able to provide police with identification, but Lopez pulled out an old citation from Tucson Police for drinking in public, reports stated.

When Lopez was searched, police found a pair of pliers and a wrench in his pocket, reports stated.

Lopez told the officer he bought the bike for $25 more than a week ago at a garage sale. He said he left his bike unlocked near La Paz the previous night because he was too drunk to ride it, reports stated.

Lopez said he and his friend met at the Circle K convenience store on E. Sixth Street and N. Cherry Avenue that morning at 10:30 a.m. and walked to campus to retrieve the bike, reports stated.

Lopez's companion told police he and Lopez had gotten drunk together the night before and slept in the same place. When he woke up the next morning, Lopez was gone, reports stated.

He also said he and Lopez met at the Ronstadt Transit Center downtown at 9:30 a.m. and walked to campus together. He told officers the tire he was carrying was his sister's and he had just gotten it fixed for her, reports stated.

Police checked the registration number on the bike and discovered it belonged to a student and had been reported stolen in October.

Lopez was taken to Pima County Jail where he was booked. The other man was not arrested due to lack of evidence, but the tire was taken into UAPD property.

An employee called police Wednesday morning to report vandalism at the Park Student Union, 605 N. Park Ave.

According to police reports, the employee found three damaged display windows on the west side of the building.

Someone had etched the letters "ETA" and "SHU" into the glass, reports stated.

The employee told police she noticed it Jan. 6 and thought some skateboarders that frequent the area might have done it, reports stated.

A student called police Wednesday evening after she noticed writing on a UA golf cart.

The student told police she noticed the vandalism at 6 p.m. when the cart was parked on the east side of McClelland Hall, 1130 E. Helen St.

The word "grim" and the letters "ETA" were written on the side of the cart in black marker.
