RHA president's punishment a forum for revenge
To the editor,
I have lived in the residence halls for three years. I have been a member of the Residence Hall Association all that time. The thing I liked about this year's RHA is its organization compared to the last two years. Okay, last year we had the IACURH conference where RHA's various colleges came to the University of Arizona for a conference. But besides that, this year has been the best ever. There has been an increased support for diversity and multicultural programs, and many other things I can write a novel about.
Many of these aspects of RHA cannot be said without talking about other RHA E-board members like Dawn Morford, Evin Abromowitz, Rebecca Zilm, Leann Kovac, and, well, Matt Meaker. These members have done a great deal for the RHA.
One of the major aspects that general body members at the RHA meeting were forgetting was that the infamous Breakfast Meeting was for discussing RHA on "dead day" when, most people can meet.
Matt stood at the front of the room and was being balked at by many people. Some people were there for the sole reason because they wanted REVENGE. Certain halls had funding problems for programs last spring or did not like how the RHA decided to handle money. These same members rarely participated with the RHA on major events. Some of these halls should be punished for HALL GOVERNMENT MEETING attendance fraud. And these same people were bitching about a $58 check. Please. I hate hypocritical people the most.
Okay, Matt made a mistake, but the breakfast he planned was for the benefit for the RHA! How should the RHA better serve hall governments, what should they do for next year, and much more. It is something that the E-board would approve of anyway.
What is done is done! Matt has, is, and will apologize again.
I admired his honesty and the way he stood in the middle of a lot of people admitting he made a mistake, and was willing to accept any action.
A good leader is not a perfect person. A person makes mistakes and so do leaders. But good leaders are those who are honest when they make mistakes, even when the mistake actually resulted in serving the best interests for all the people.
The RHA meeting was very boring but important enough to see what it is to be a leader: A good leader, an honest leader.
Half of the general body was so bored that they left for the sole reason that the whole matter was bullshit. Which it was indeed! I pray that future meetings are exciting, and fun to go to - WHICH THEY WILL BE.
To all those hypocrites: Don't even dare arguing. I wanted to say what was on my mind. First correct yourself and then correct others.
The matter was similar to that of treating a cancer patient. Half the general body was trying to relieve the patient from pain, the other half wanted to cure the cancer by killing the patient.
The hypocrites resemble the second half. It's okay, I forgive those of you, I am not perfect either, but at least I have a life!
