Vic Chesnutt will leave the southern comfort of his Atlanta life for a rare live performance tonight at Hotel Congress, 311 E. Congress. With his sometimes spare, sometimes rugged guitar and a lyrical approach that is as sardonic as it is sincere, Chesnutt has amassed a loyal following, including fellow songwriters Victoria Williams and Michael Stipe, who once called him "the best songwriter in America." The last time Chesnutt was to play Tucson, the show was canceled for an unknown reason, which means the natives will be restless to see him. You best get there early. Openers Edith Frost and Lullaby for the Working Class (see related story, page 7) round out a fine evening of music. Tickets are $6. Phone 622-8848.

Besides Sean Connery and kilts, another of Scotland's greatest exports is accordion and fiddle duo Aly and Phil. Catch this rare performance Friday at 8 p.m. at the Berger Performing Arts Center, 1200 W. Speedway. All reserved seats are $15. Call 327-4809 to order.

Are ya feelin' lucky, punk? Well, then, The Lucky Shoes are just your size. See them at the Plaza Pub, 20 E. Pennington, at 9 p.m. for only $3 cover. That's pretty lucky. Call 882-0400.
