Icecats head coach Leo Golembiewski reached a career milestone Sunday when he posted his 400th career victory with a win over Marquette, 7-2.

Golembiewski has been at the helm of the Icecats since their inception 20 years ago. His 400 victories place him among the American Collegiate Hockey Association's elite.

"This is obviously a special feeling for me and my team," Golembiewski said. "It also says I've been here for a long time."

Golembiewski has taken his teams to 16 straight national tournaments and 11 final fours, winning a national title in 1985.

This season the Icecats stand at 17-3-1 and are ranked No. 4 in the country. A sweep against Wisconsin-Whitewater this past weekend coupled with the Marquette win gives the Icecats an opportunity to sweep their nine game road trip.

Hunter Cherenack, Pavel Jandura, Paul Dorn and Marc Harris all scored against Marquette, while goalie Mike Tesi gave up only two goals in his first start of the season.

Arizona next plays at No. 7 Delaware tomorrow, and West Chester on Friday.

The last time the Icecat community celebrated Golembiewski's achievements was 1994, and they did it in style. He nailed down his 300th victory as a head coach.

The following weekend he was honored at the Tucson Convention Center by, among others, current Detroit Red Wings head coach Scotty Bowman, UA football coach Dick Tomey and Tucson mayor George Miller.

Golembiewski, a goaltender in the St. Louis Blues organization, was inducted into the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame in 1996 along with Arizona coaching legend "Pop" McKale.
