Pole vaulter qualifies for NCAA tournament

The UA men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., this past weekend.

UA junior Jeff Dutoit won the men's pole vault competition. His vault of 17-feet, 2 3/4 inches was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Freshman Mike Mortensen vaulted to a third place finish, with a mark of 16-8 3/4.

Junior Micheil Jones turned in a sixth place performance in the men's 3,000-meter race with a time of 8 minutes, 23.01 seconds. Sophomore Keith Varga jumped 6-9 in the men's high jump for a sixth place finish. Two freshmen women turned in their best times of the season in the 800m. Cara Cline finished third with a time of 2:10.46 and Danielle Price finished seventh with a time of 2:12.45.
