A pitching duel started to break out during Saturday's game between the Arizona and New Mexico baseball teams.

Only three hits and no runs were across through four innings, and then both offenses exploded, en route to Arizona's (9-0) 9-3 victory over the Lobos (1-5).

The Lobos scored three runs off of Arizona junior starting pitcher Josh Pearce in the top of the fifth inning with two outs.

After two walks, an RBI single by senior second baseman Cory Robbins and a two-run double by sophomore third baseman Aaron Sisk, the Lobos took a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom half of the fifth, UA junior catcher Dennis Anderson provided the offensive spark the Wildcats needed by hitting his second home run of the season over the right field wall.

"It definitely was big," Anderson said. "There was definitely more fire in the dugout afterwards."

After walks to Anderson and junior left fielder Rafell Jones, sophomore Jeff Casper pinch hit for freshman designated hitter Ben Diggins and laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt, moving Anderson and Jones into scoring position.

"The biggest play of the game was Jeff getting that bunt down," UA head coach Jerry Stitt said.

The Wildcats also beat UNM Friday afternoon 5-4 as junior Tony Milo picked up the victory.
