764-HERO
![]()
Get Here and Stay (Up) 764-HERO, aside from being a Northwestern indie band on Up (meaning they're labelmates with the ever-wonderful Modest Mouse), is also the number you call when someone is abusing the carpool lane on the freeways in Washington. If someone is driving alone in the lane, just trying to get somewhere faster than everybody else, you can pick up your handy cell phone and call the authorities, and the evildoer will be dealt with accordingly. So the argument can be made quite effectively here that names reveal a lot. 764-HERO never tries to get anywhere too fast; they're ahead of everyone else but have good reason to be there, coasting at an uninhibited 75 mph without any other cars in the way. And the travel metaphors don't end there. Get Here and Stay, 764-HERO's second full-length album, starts to pick up the pace with the steady drums on "Loaded Painted Red," reaches full speed right in the middle with "Ottawa Dropout," and slows to a satisfying stop at its destination with the last track, "Coastline." The addition of a third member, James Bertram from Red Stars Theory, to the original duo of Polly and John, provides 764-HERO with a higher octane that makes Get Here and Stay get there even faster.
