Wildcat Welcome tour 'hindered' by errors
UA student leaders Saturday declared the Wildcat Welcome tour a success despite being impeded by a brochure printing error and a low turnout. Members of the University Activities Board, greek Life and the Residence Hall Association gave tours of the campus to about 20 new students. A printing error in the Wildcat Welcome brochure failed to mention the meeting location, said Adam Keller, UAB president, but the turnout was satisfactory. "The people who show up will get their tours and have a good time," he said. "If people want to see something, by golly, we'll take them there." The welcome tour disappointed several new students last year, when members of ASUA failed to appear for the tour. UAB Vice President Carri DeRose said the tour is an important part of Wildcat Welcome, despite recent mix-ups. "It just so happened that two years in a row something hindered it," she said. "People still noticed us. It (the printing error) really wasn't a big deal." Gabe Sarah, Inter-Fraternity Council public relations vice president, said the low turnout allowed for more personal interaction. "This (low turnout) is even better because we're giving one-on-one tours," he said. |
