Where should we park?
To the editor, Has anyone else noticed how bad parking has become on campus? It has been bad since I arrived here in 1996, but it has gotten worse. Parking and Transportation Services claims that the construction of a new garage north of Coronado will help solve the problem. What about the problem this construction has created? It destroyed a large number of Zone 1 parking places. They say that there are plenty of other places to pick up for the loss, and on most days this is true. The lot on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Cherry Avenue normally has plenty of room, but on February 8 that changed. Parking spaces have been roped off and semi trailer are parked in them. This has eliminated about 38 spaces and puts added strained on the university parking situation. Where does Parking and Transportation want the displaced Zone 1 permit holders to park? They would probably like them to park illegally. Then they can write more tickets, generate more revenue and pay for more giant parking structures. Christopher J. VanDerBeek Journalism senior
