Talk about this story

The No. 3 Arizona softball team received another honor this week as sophomore pitcher/first baseman Jennie Finch was crowned Pacific 10 Conference Player of the Week.

This marks the second time in three weeks a UA player has been honored by the Pac-10. Junior pitcher Becky Lemke earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 14.

Finch was the driving force behind the Wildcats 5-0 sweep at the Wildcat Invitational last weekend.

"She is a good athlete," junior outfielder Lauren Bauer said of her teammate who hit .643 (nine-for-14) at the Wildcat Invitational.

Finch also hit four home runs and had 12 RBI, while scoring nine runs in the tournament.

"Jennie is on right now, I think she is really stepping it up and she's finding her zone and she needs to keep it that way for this weekend (2000 'Bama Bash)," junior outfielder Nicole Giordano said. "She has a great mind set up there, she just wants to hit the ball hard some where and pretty much if she makes contact it is going far, she has a lot of power."

In addition to her exceptional performance at the plate, Finch also threw a no-hitter against Tennessee Tech and a one-hitter against Kentucky in the Arizona Invitational.

For Finch, it is the second time she has been honored with the player of the week award. This also marks the 65th time a UA player has been honored.
