During the Spring Break vacation, the Arizona Laxcats logged more than a thousand miles in travel, as they went to Utah and California for three games.

On Friday, the Laxcats (6-3 overall, 4-0 in the West Coast Lacrosse League) took on the University of California at San Diego under the lights of RIMAC field in San Diego.

The Tritons came out to a quick two goal lead with goals by Brendan Eckelman and An Hong in the first quarter.

"We did not control the ball as well as we wanted to," sophomore attacker Eric Renner said. "Ball control is something we need to work on."

The Laxcats, though, responded with two quick goals in the second period and took the lead with a goal by Nate Schmidt.

The Tritons, though, fought back and finished the first half leading by a score of 4-3.

In the second half the Laxcat defense controlled the game and allowed the Tritons only four shots on goal.

The score remained tied late into the game until Renner scored the game winning goal with less than two minutes remaining.

"We did not play as well as we should of," Renner said. "We are lucky to get out of San Diego with a win."

The Laxcat defense held strong in the last minutes protecting the 6-5 lead and winning their fourth division game of the season.

"We showed a tendency this week to play down to a team's level," head coach Mikey-Miles Felton said. "Now it is my job to make sure that this does not become a habit."

On March 11th and 12th, the Laxcats traveled to Utah to take on Brigham Young and the University of Utah.

Against BYU, the Laxcats trailed 4-3 after the first quarter and ended up losing to the Cougars, 17-9.

"It was not as bad as it looked," Felton said. "BYU is a very tough place to play."

The following night the Laxcats played the Utes and got back to their winning ways by beating them, 14-4.

"The win gave us a little more encouragement coming home," Felton said.

In the game, Renner became the first Laxcat to score five goals in a game this season. He also notched two assists.
