UA child care funds could see huge boost

In two separate resolutions last night, the ASUA Senate demanded an additional $25,000 for UA child care subsidies and kicked in $2,500 of its own money to encourage administrators. The Senate will allocate $2,500 of its own money to help the program - which helps pay child care costs for student parents. ASUA President Cisco Aguilar will also give $2,500 from his presidential budget to bring the organization's total contribution to $5,000. "We're hoping the administration will see our contribution and add to it," said Sen. Ryan Roa, who co-sponsored the resolution with Aguilar.    [More]

Harvard binge drinking study misleading
[news] According to a recent study from the Harvard School of Public Health, binge drinking is on the rise on college campus throughout the United States. More men, the study reports, are consuming at least five alcoholic drinks in one sitting, and more women are having four or more drinks. What is troubling about this study is not that students are drinking more, but the definition - and time element - used by Harvard to classify "binge drinkers."    [More]

Controversial theater series comes to UA Centennial Hall

UA Centennial Hall will change from a cavernous auditorium to an intimate theater this weekend, showcasing nationally acclaimed leaders in avant-garde performance art. Beginning tonight and continuing through Sunday, the "Voices from the Margins" series will give students an opportunity to see four solo artists whose works seek to go beyond the limits of contemporary society.
