Listen to your mom, Loren

Talk about this story

UA junior center Loren Woods has a big decision to make today.

Should he go pro and make a couple quick million or stay here in beautiful Tucson and wake up early, go to class and play for Coach O?

What would you do?

The decision is really quite easy. You stay!

The are three factors why Woods should stay.

1). Woods' return gives soon-to-be fifth year seniors like myself hope for another week-long championship celebration, a la 1996, plus it adds to the list of excuses I can give my parents for staying here for five years.

Arizona has a terrific shot at a title next year, knock on wood, if everyone can stay healthy.

There is no reason a squad with Jason Gardner, Gilbert Arenas, Richard Jefferson, Luke Walton, Wright (you will return Michael), Woods and the return of 'Mean' Gene Edgerson and Lamont Frazier should not win the title.

Woods knows that too, so why go pro and play for some crappy team like the Clippers or Celtics, when you have a great chance to be a national champion and watch your draft status rise ever more after leading your team to a championship?

2). Loren still doesn't have the NBA body needed for an 82-game season. Can you imagine Shaq and Loren going at it? I can't, because Shaq would snap Loren like a twig.

He should also be weary of going pro this year because he could end up in the hands of the Bulls and their fat toad of a general manager, Jerry Krause.

Woods needs to go to an up-and-coming team like Vancouver or Milwaukee which needs a dominate running big man, but that can wait a year.

Loren has great pro skills and would be a lottery pick this year, but without more weight and strength in his back, he is just putting his career in jeopardy.

GMs are worried about his back, and should be, so to dismiss their doubts, Loren needs have a healthy season, which would mean an All-American season.

More importantly, why wouldn't Woods stay a year and possibly be the No. 1 pick in the draft, instead of the seventh or eighth this year? An extra year could mean extra millions.

3). The most important reason Woods will stay is because his mom wants him to get his degree.

Any good son knows that you never disrespect your mom and her wishes, and Loren is a good guy and loves his momma, so expect to see him in his No. 3 Arizona uniform, running the court and blocking shots next year.
