Commentary - It's the Flintstones baby!

Talk about this story

Here we go, the final game, the big one and I am excited.

Tonight's NCAA Championship game between Michigan State and Florida has all the right ingredients to be a classic battle.

The Spartans and their battle tested veterans of Mateen Cleeves, Morris Peterson and Charlie Bell - known as the Flintstones - will have their hands full against the runnin' gunnin' Florida Gators.

The Gators come in waves, they have a never ending bench of fresh bodies who run the floor like gazelle and jack up three's like no one, besides myself when I am dropping three bombs on my friends at Beardown Gym.

They sort of remind me of some team from Tucson in 1997 who came out of nowhere and shocked the basketball world.

Florida freshman point guard Brett Nelson is absolutely sensational when he steps on the floor, he turns the court into a race track and forward Mike Miller is one of the most versatile big men in the country, who can bury the three just as easily as he will beat you off the dribble.

This game will be decided by tempo, though, as Florida runs like the UNLV teams of the late 80s, while State and their floor general Cleeves prefer a slowed down half-court offense.

Whatever team controls the pace of play should win the game and that is where the leadership and veteran play of Michigan State should take over.

Cleeves, though, his shot is uglier than a two dollar hooker, is generally underrated and provides more intensity and leadership than any other player that will lace 'em up tonight.

Mo P will be the difference maker on offense as he should cash in on a Final Four MVP, as he will match three's throughout the night with Florida's backcourt.

The key to the game could well be A.J. Granger and Andre Hudson's on-going battles over rebounds with Florida's Udonis Haslem and Donnell Harvey.

Whoever controls the glass, controls the tempo and this is where the game is going to be won.

This will turn out to be a war in the paint, as bodies will be flying and diving across the floor for every loose ball.

The Flintstones will be victorious though, and prove they are the greatest product (basketball or car) to come out of Flint, Mich. since the Mustang, as the Spartans cut down the nets.

Something the Fab Five could never due, as Wolverine fans get another slap in the face from their hated Spartan rivals.

Plus, East Lansing hasn't had a good riot in, oh, a couple weeks, so I figure the students are getting kind of antsy to flip over cars and set some buildings on fire, anyway.

Michigan State 69 Florida 64
