Come out, come out, wherever you are

Talk about this story

Fanatic: (adj.) marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion.

For those of you that didn't know, the word fan is derived from the word fanatic.

Remember all of those Chicago Bulls fans that claimed they started to like the franchise before it had Michael Jordan? I can.

The question everyone wants to know is where the hell are you now? Oh, what am I thinking, I know where you are. You're at home watching your new favorite team, the Los Angeles Lakers.

If you had a genuine tie with the city of Chicago or honestly are a "fan" of the team, I respect you.

But remember "that guy" who always used to say, "My dad is from Chicago so I have liked them since I was a kid?'"

I haven't seen "that guy" for a while.

If you claimed to be a Bulls' fan, but now can't name four players on the team, you are a disgrace to all "fans" around the league. Nothing makes a true fan more upset than a front-running loser representing their team.

I feel bad for the true Lakers and the Portland Trail-Blazers fans. These fans have been loyal for years and now are rightfully ecstatic because their teams have excellent chances at winning an NBA championship.

But, "that guy" all of a sudden is flaunting a Kobe Bryant jersey.

For the first time in my life, I am going to give some props to the fans of the (gulp) always exciting Utah Jazz. (Is it just me or does Karl Malone have a stunning physical resemblance to Rodney King?)

At least the Rodney-fueled Jazz have loyal fans that love their pick-and-roll basketball. My favorite aspect of the Jazz is they could win 15 straight championships, but not a soul outside of the lovely state of Utah would like them.

So, is there any hope for "that guy?" Unfortunately not. Cheap Bulls' fans have given us real fans a bad name.

For die-hard fans of such teams like the Clippers or Cavaliers, when it comes their time to shine, they will be looked at as "that guy." Why is that? Because "that guy" is in a closet right now thinking of reasons to why Lamar Odom has always been his favorite player.

Maybe all the front-running Bulls fans of the '90s don't like basketball anymore. Or, maybe they just don't like the Bulls.

Whatever the case, I just know it has been a while since I've seen "that guy" strutting down the UA Mall in his M.J. jersey. Oh yeah, that's because it's now a Shaq jersey.
