Environmental foundation known for conflict resolution, financial aid awards
Arizona Summer Wildcat
The Morris K. Udall foundation is a federally funded institution that awards scholorships and fellowships to students who study enviornmental policy and enviornmental conflict resolution. The program was founded in 1995, 273 scholorships have been awarded at a value of up to $5,000. Udall Fellowships can receive up to $24,000 for a Ph.D. dissertations on the subect of environmental public policy or enviornmental conflict resolution. In addition to the scholorships the US Department for Environmental Conflict Resolution has been founded as an arm of the foundation. Several prominant figures sit on the board - which is appointed by the President of the United States - including Norma Udall, his daughter and University of Arizona President Peter Likins. Morris K. Udall became an Arizona Congressman in 1961 after replaceing his brother in the postion and was an integral part milestone enviornmental legislation during his time in congress. He helped write Strip Mining Reclamation Act, the Nuclear Waste management Policy Act and helped create the Central Arizona Project. Udall was a UA Alumni who played basketball for UA and professionally with the Denver Nuggets despite loseing his right eye when he was 7. Udall was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1979. He continute to serve in congress untill 1991 when he resigned for health reasons. Udall passed away in 1998. Stuart Udall, his brother, is also know for his dedication to the enviornment while serving as secratery of the interior under President Kennedy and President Truman.
