University's double standard on gender raises 'ugly head'

By James Redasky

To the editor,

I just felt compelled to get my two cents worth in on this Playboy-bashing issue and the ladies who appeared in it, so here goes...

The 'ole U of A double-standard raises its ugly head once again.

At one point we are referred to as adults who are capable of making our own life decisions, and then we are treated with the "in loco parentis" attitude that we cannot make sound judgments on our own, and need to be coddled by UofA's "parental hand" until we leave our college community.

The ladies (not girls, not babes, not chicks) who graced the current issue surely did not have guns held to their heads, and I think I can safely say that they made the decision to appear purely from their own free will.

As Mr. Nathan True so succinctly put it, "if you don't want to see naked women, don't buy Playboy".

Having been a former Playboy On-Campus rep for UofA, I must say that I for one do enjoy looking at natural beauty as it is presented in Playboy, and encourage those who also do to "buy Playboy" !!!

And, as I'm sure Nick Zeckets and Diana Froehlich have learned by now, it is much better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt !!!
