UA running back may have to sit
UA junior running back Leon Callen, projected to be senior Trung Canidate's primary backup, may have to sit out the Penn State game this Saturday due to academic troubles. Whether or not these academic problems are related to those that caused Callen to miss most of Camp Cochise Aug. 7-17, are unknown. UA coaches could not comment specifically about Callen's problems, citing regulations stemming from the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. "We can get sued for that kind of stuff," UA offensive coordinator Dino Babers said. Babers said he hopes Callen can work through his problems before the game this weekend. "Leon Callen is still working through some academic issues," running backs coach Jeff Woodruff said. "Until it's posted, official things have to have happened. We won't chance it (by saying if he can play or not)." Callen rushed for 276 yards on 63 carries last year, averaging 4.4 yards per carry. He had his best game against Oregon State, with 107 yards and his only touchdown of the season. With redshirt freshman Leo Mills nursing a sore shoulder, true freshmen Larry Croom and Lance Briggs might see time behind Canidate on Saturday.
