"Diedrich" change positive

By Lauren McInerney
Arizona Daily Wildcat,
September 22, 1999

To the editor,

I am writing in response to the story, "Coffee Plantation chain sold, name changing to Diedrich." I have to admit, this is some of the best news I have heard since I moved to Arizona. I am a native of Irvine, California, where Diedrich Coffee is based. And as luck would have it, I have also been an employee of Diedrich's for about 2 years. Where I live, there is a heavy sprinkling of Diedrich coffee shops all around and when I arrived here, I searched long and hard for a place to fill its' shoes. While Coffee Plantation is a respectable and nice place, I believe this buyout will come as a much needed change to Tucson. I think instead of focusing on the negative of the alteration, the positive should be enforced. Diedrich Coffee is a staple to public life in Southern California as much as Coffee Plantation is here in Tucson. The two should merge very nicely, I assume. And in response to Lilach Shafir's worry-induced comment, "You always said, 'Let's meet at Coffee Plant'. Now what?"- well, back in California we just say Diedrich's, and I think being college students, we can all manage that.
