UA police officer takes his own life
Floyd "Denny" Mallory II, who served as an officer for the University of Arizona Police Department for more than five years, died Tuesday. He was 29. A UAPD press release issued yesterday stated Mallory died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home. No further details about the incident were released by university police or the Tucson Police Department, which is handling the investigation. "Officer Mallory was described by those who knew him, as an exemplary police officer and a warm and caring person," university police Chief Harry R. Hueston II wrote in the statement. "He will be greatly missed." The statement indicated that Mallory started working for the UAPD in February of 1994. Mallory was a motorcycle officer, bicycle officer and patrol officer during his time with university police, according to the release. According to the statement, Mallory is survived by his father, mother and two sisters.
