Greek violence a 'myth'

By Walter F. Reichert
Arizona Daily Wildcat,
October 1, 1999

To the editor,

The opinion column "What a Wonderful World" by Mr. David J. Cieslak, was just that - an opinion. He based his story on all the stories of "Greek violence" and other myths that are going on around campus. The opinion piece was another anti-Greek article stemming from your paper. If this so-called attack was so vicious, certainly it would have made the front page of the paper. The facts in the story just do not make sense, being the excellent journalist Mr. Cieslak is, he forgot the names of the girls he spoke with at the sorority house. What sorority house did he go to? Also, he didn't have a description of the men involved in the attack. Mr. Cieslak, did you really report the "savage beating" to the police? If not, then you are just one of the "sheep" as you put it, speaking no evil against the satanic fraternity system.

It is truly said that a paper writes opinion pieces and tries to pawn them off as something they are not -news. Next time, Mr. Cieslak, report the facts.
