50 years of oppression

By Gregory Schneider
Arizona Daily Wildcat,

To the editor,

Today is the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China. In my perspective, the Chinese revolution was wrong. Look at how many died because of the Communist regime. The founder of Communist China, Mao Zedong, is responsible for the deaths of 700 million Chinese from 1949 till his death on September 9,1976.

Look at what happened, 50 million were executed from 1949 to 1954, because they were opposed to Mao's revolution. 60 to 100 million died during the Great Famine of 1958 to 1962 because of Mao's Great Leap Forward which was an attempt to industrialize China at a rapid rate. People were forced into communes to smelt steel in backyard furnaces and crops were not collected because everyone was smelting steel. In 1962, Chairman Mao launched the Socialist Education Campaign which led to the launching of The Great Proletariat Cultural Revolution which purged those that were opposed to Chairman Mao; 300 million died from 1966 to 1976. In 1984, China started to sell the organs of executed prisoners on the black market. Since the 1949 revolution in China, the Chinese government is responsible for the deaths of 1.5 billion people who died because of this oppressive communist rule.

Let us bring the end of the Chinese Communist Party and have a democratic government in China.
