Column also shows hypocrisy

By Tom Lachenmaier
Arizona Daily Wildcat,
August 25, 1999

To the editor,

Wow! Your column "The New Kids" sure was a brilliant display of hypocrisy. You described fraternity members as thoughtless followers who, "Do what everyone else is doing!" However, there isn't anything more sheep-like and conforming than writing an article which bashes Greeks.

Since I've attended the U, the first week of the Daily Wildcat is never complete without an article that negatively depicts Greek life. You must use the same template for the article each year. . . changing only the article's author, cartoon, and title. These claims against Greek life are unwarranted.

From my recollection, Greeks haven't published cynical commentaries about newspaper journalists or media arts majors. Joining a fraternity or sorority is a personal decision, just like choosing a major, and you should respect someone's decision.

You fail to recognize the philanthropic, administrative, and monetary contributions Greek students and alumni make to the University each year.
