Fraternal behavior universal

Talk about this story

To the editor,

Ashley Weaver's commentary "Good old spanky fun" was so right on, no self-respecting greek brother can touch it. I must beg you, however, not to be so judgmental of male fraternal organizations...from an anthropological perspective, these types of behaviors are universal, rather common, in fact, across time and place. Your picturesque description of "Elephant Walking" sounds very much like a game called "Rats" played by groups of young men in parts of Oceania. And we cannot begrudge a group of men who like to get drunk and get naked together, if they are willing to call themselves "greek."

As for John Ward's "Absolute Value," I wonder if he considers it more shameful, for himself, to hate than to love. Either way, I hope he finds the love he deserves.
