Gays don't undermine values

Talk about this story

To the editor,

If I were to follow the logic presented in the opinion article "Absolute Value; Feathers, Stiletto Heels ... " it seems as though homosexuality would be the "absolute," and that homophobia is "the willingness of people to follow" a "delusional" value. Homosexuality has survived for 5,000 years, has it not? How long has traditional marriage been present throughout that time?

It saddens me when people use the term "family" when discussing values, for my family, and many others, do not share a desire to oppose and hate that which does not harm or have any affect on others. Being queer is not undermining the pillars of society any more than any other group is, including Catholicism. Catholicism does not condemn homosexuality, and homosexuality does not condemn Catholicism. But some people use their beliefs as a skewed telescope to view the world through.

After one has been assaulted, harassed, and dehumanized for crossing one's legs the wrong way, then you have a right to talk about the "undermining of society." Until then, don't dare to pretend to know about the depletion of America's fundamental virtues.
