Faithful Catholics (far right) carry the Virgin de Zapopan during her annual visit to a suburb near Guadalajara. The town has a carnival, procession and fireworks display to honor the miraculous Virgin. Catholicism adapted many of itsā icons to parallel gods and deities worshipped by natives after the European conquest of the 16th century.
