Critics have rights too

Talk about this story

To the editor,

I would like to comment on the two letters that have been written in response to Tommy Cannon's comic strip, "Iguana Factory." First I would like to say that I am disappointed that Mr. Noah Bender does not find Mr. Cannon's comic strip funny but I am even more disappointed that Mr. David Lee does not understand that Mr. Bender has the right to free speech under the First Amendment. Yes, Mr. Bender may have been out of line with his remarks but he was expressing his opinion on something that he did not like, which is exactly what letters to the editors are for; to express our opinions on articles and anything in the Daily Wildcat that we may agree or disagree with. Also, though I am sure that the editor gets many letters on matters in the paper, it is to the editors discretion which letters will be printed, another amazing perk of the First Amendment. So, though I myself am also outraged at the letter that Mr. Bender wrote, I am even more outraged at you, Mr. Lee, that you do not recognize his letter as a form of freedom of speech which is something this country thrives on.
