The 'Real World' in real life

Talk about this story

If last weekend's MTV marathon was not enough to satisfy any "Real World" cravings, you're in luck.

Matt Simon and Kaia Beck, two cast members from the Hawaiian season of MTV's "Real World" program, will be giving a presentation on health and personal safety issues this Sunday night at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Student Union's Arizona Ballroom.

The presentation is part of Alpha Chi Omega's Celebration Series, a series of speakers and events designed to benefit the UA community.

Matt took time off as a disc jockey and student at UCLA to make his television debut on "The Real World." At 21 years old, he plans to stick with stardom and try his talent as a Hollywood screenwriter.

Kaia, a 22-year-old African-American studies major at UC Berkeley, appeared on the show after spending 10 months in Tanzania as part of an exchange program.

Topics of discussion range from sexual health to the dangers of walking alone at night, according to program coordinator Ryan Koerner. Anything relevant to a college student's health and safety is game, especially AIDS/HIV awareness. The topic hits close to home for Kaia, who lost her father to an AIDS-related illness.

A question-and-answer period with Matt and Kaia will follow, as well as an opportunity to win gift certificates from local shops and restaurants.
