Icecats face another East Coast foe
Fresh off a week-long road trip, the Icecats return home to the Tucson Convention Center to take on Rutgers University. The Icecats (6-0-1) are currently ranked No. 6 in the American Collegiate Hockey Association's rankings. Despite a loss to Penn State at State College, Penn., the Icecats finished up the road trip strong with 5-0 and 11-1 victories over West Chester (Penn.) and Scranton (Penn.), respectively. "The road trip proved that we can contend for a national championship." Icecats head coach Leo Golembiewski said. "We beat Penn State 2-1 when we were even strength." The team is hoping to get in some more quality playing time before taking on Delaware next weekend. The Icecats may have an eye on next weekend, but must focus on this weekend series first. "Delaware always plays us tough," junior co-captain Paul Dorn said. "It is one of the most important games this semester, if we can beat them twice then we can move ahead of them in the rankings." But first they need to play the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, who have a record of 4-0-3 in club play. Rutgers is coming off this weekend with 5-3 victories over Navy and Marist College. Rutgers is a ACHA Division II club team, while the Icecats are a Division I club team. This begins a long home stand for the Icecats, as they do not play another road game until they take on Arizona State at Tempe on Jan. 26. The puck drops tonight and tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.
