'Movies' article a farce
To the editor, Phil Villarreal's article on the "real top 10 movies of the century" is a travesty to the film industry. By choosing movies such as Go!, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Swingers and Rocky I-V, Mr. Villarreal demonstrates our generation's refusal to accept the classics as viable works of art. Where is the Godfather on your list? Or Citizen Kane, the Graduate, Schindler's List, the Grapes of Wrath, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest or Casablanca? What criteria was used to pick these movies? Did you like Go! because you finally got to see what a rave was? Or Reefer Madness because you thought you would win over the bong-loving crowd? I wonder if these films were chosen merely because they were entertaining, or perhaps these are the only movies he has ever seen. Spare us your rag-tag lists, Mr. Villarreal, until perhaps some thought goes into them, won't you please? Jeremy Greene Media arts junior
