Talk about this story

As the No. 6 UA Icecats (9-1-1) prepare for their home matches against the No. 9 ASU Ice Devils(10-1-1), more than just a hockey game is at stake.

The parity between these two teams should make for some hockey to remember at the Tucson Convention Center tonight and tomorrow night. Both games start at 7:30.

The ASU Ice Devils come to Tucson ranked ninth, the highest ranking for an ASU squad ever to play in Tucson.

After opening the season with a loss and a tie, the Ice Devils have reeled off 10 consecutive wins, averaging nine goals a game in that stretch.

"The Icecats are very well coached and have a lot of talent on their team." IceDevils head coach Mickey Volcan said. "I just hope that we can play disciplined hockey, take advantage of their mistakes and give them a run for their money."

The Icecats won all six meetings last year, with five of the six games having a two-goal or less difference.

"The games against ASU are always fun because we sell out the arena and the games are always intense," Icecats junior Paul Dorn said.

Fellow junior and co-captain Marc Harris echoed Dorn's comments.

"They play rough and hard, it's something we look forward to all year long," he said.

If history between these two programs holds any water, look for both teams to pull out all the stops to get the upper hand.

The Icecats hope to have some key players return from injury, as sophomores Kyle Neary and Pavel Jandura hope to return after missing the 4-4 overtime tie against No. 5 Delaware two weeks ago. Other key players not playing at full strength include Dorn, sophomore Andrew Edwards and freshman Ryan Royce.
