Ice feud travels north against rival Sun Devils

Rivalry games never get old.

As the No. 6 Arizona Icecats travel to Tempe for part four of this season's UA-Arizona State IceDevils match-up, expect much of the same from both teams - physical games that go down to the wire.

The Icecats are currently riding a 15-game winning streak and have won or tied the last nine games against No. 9 Arizona State.

In the last meeting between the two intra-state rivals, the Icecats came away with a tough road victory, 4-3. The Icecats led at one point in the third period 4-1, but two power play goals by the IceDevils put ASU within striking distance with only a few minutes to play. Pressing defense by the Icecats allowed them to escape with a victory.

"Last game's score was not indicative of the game," Icecat head coach Leo Golembiewski said after the game. "It was the most gusty performance by my guys that I have ever seen."

This is the start of a three-game road swing for Arizona, which travels to Boulder, Colo. to take on the Buffaloes next weekend.

With only five games remaining on the regular season schedule, the three games against ASU, besides being emotional games, may hold the key for the Icecats' tournament hopes.

"We need to win these games against ASU," junior center Marc Harris said. "It just feels better deep down inside."
