Arizona wins TRW
The top-ranked Arizona women's golf team came out smoking Monday and never looked back. Paced by four top-eight finishers, the Wildcats won the TRW Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif., yesterday after posting a final-round 6-over-par 290. Junior Christina Monteiro led Arizona's individual efforts, finishing tied for fourth after carding a 72 on the par-71, 5,900 Palos Verdes Golf Club. Monteiro's third round capped off a consistent three days in which she shot 72 and 71 the previous rounds. Monteiro finished three shots behind Georgia's Shauna Estes, who won the tournament with a 1-under-par 212. Junior Jenna Daniels and sophomore Cristina Baena ended up in an eighth-place tie after Daniels shot a 4-under-par 67 yesterday. Baena, the opening-round leader, shot a 75. Both golfers ended up 5-over for the tournament. Jill Gomric, a senior, finished at 8-over, good enough to tie for 10th place. Freshman Julia Kraschinski finished tied for 37th at 17-over-par. The closest team to Arizona, which finished at 17-over-par, was Southern California at 27-over-par. Stanford and Georgia tied for third at 42-over, while Pepperdine finished fifth at 44-over.
