The Arizona men and women's cross country teams swept the team titles at the UC Irvine/J.L Design Enterprises Invitational at Central Park in Huntington Beach, Calif., on Saturday. The Arizona men captured the title with 47 points, while the Wildcat women won with 45 points. Both squads were able to place the five scoring runners in the top 16.
In its first action of the fall campaign, the UA men were led by senior Kyle Goklish's second-place finish. Goklish covered the 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:07.3.
The Wildcat women looked much-improved from last year's squad, which was almost completely composed of freshmen. Junior Beth Hoge led the way for the Wildcats with a third-place finish. She finished the 5,000-meter course with a time of 18:54.9. Sophomore Adrienne Goeller wasn't too far behind, finishing fifth in 19:03.5.
The Wildcats will take next weekend off in preparation for the only home meet of the season. The Dave Murray Invitational will take place on Friday, Sept. 19.
