Following a season that saw him capture the NCAA Cross Country Championship, UA senior Martin Keino has been named the United States Track Coaches Association's Male Cross Country Athlete of the Year. The award, which marks the first time a Wildcat runner has received this honor, was presented Saturday at the national coaches convention in St. Louis, Mo. In addition to Keino's national title, he was also named the 1994 District VIII Male Athlete of the Year after winning both the District and Pacific 10 Conference Cross Country Championships.

Said UA head cross country coach Dave Murray, who accepted the trophy on Keino's behalf: "This is a great honor not only him for, but for the Arizona cross country program as well. There is no question that he was the total class of the cross country season."
